Mason Intermediate’s sixth grade Team Venture kicked off their year of volunteering on Saturday, August 26 by participating in the 2017 Bubble Blast 5K. Ninety-seven students and parents spent Saturday morning walking and running to raise money for Building Blocks for Kids. Building Blocks for Kids was founded in 2003 to help kids with various needs such as different types of therapies, modifications to home environments, hearing and communication devices, medical equipment, transportation needs, and nursing care.

This marks the eleventh year for the team’s community service program. Team Venture teachers created the group, called Venture Out!, to provide students with service opportunities throughout the year. “Each year, it is extremely rewarding to see students develop a heart for their community and helping those in need,” said Team Venture teacher Dale Moberly. “They discover that they benefit just as much, or more, than the recipients of their kind efforts.

Team Venture students are also encouraged to create and complete their own random acts of kindness throughout the school year. “It is exciting to see how many of our students participate in these service projects by the end of the year,” Moberly said.
