Mason Honors Students’ Commitment to Serving Country in Blue Star CeremonyTwelve members of the William Mason High School Class of 2019 were honored for their decision to serve their country during a Blue Star Ceremony in the MHS auditorium on May 17.

"The ceremony was one of the more touching moments of the school year, especially the authenticity shared by guest speaker Staff Sergeant Shilo Harris," shared Superintendent Jonathan Cooper.  Harris is the author of Steel Wil: My Journey through Hell to Become the Man I was Meant to Be - a moving memoir with a message of hope, resilience and triumph over adversity. He thanked each student and family for their commitment to our nation and told the new recruits that "Everything in life is a gift." 

Students honored at the ceremony included:Dakota Anderson (Navy), Jacie Bowen (Army Reserves), Noah Calvert (Army National Guard), Jack Doran (Army), Collin Hawkins (Air Force ROTC: West Virginia University), Jasmine Kaur (Army National Guard), Bradley Kuehner (Army National Guard), Elric Nijakowski (Army National Guard), Casey Perkings (Army), Edwin Marroquin (Army), Christopher Radle (Marine Corps), and Micah Warwick (Army ROTC: Baylor University.)

Following the ceremony, Mason City Schools Board of Education members, along with MHS faculty, administration, students and families, had the opportunity to meet the 12 seniors, shake their hands, and offer their thanks.
