Western Row Holds Annual Senior Citizen Holiday Luncheon

Over 110 area senior citizens kicked off the holidays with their

neighbors at Western Row Elementary on December 15.

Western Row Elementary "Principal for the Day" Peter Marietta welcomed the special guests. “We are happy you are here again this year. The stuedents and staff have worked hard to make srue you have a great time at our school. Enjoy the food and the great singing!" Marietta's parents won the principal of the day honor at the Mason Schools Foundation's Groovy Gala.

All the preparation and practice were obvious during the luncheon.  Students, dressed in their nicest clothes, were the perfect hosts as their guests enjoyed a meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries, rolls, and apple crisp. Following lunch, a chorus led by Western Row Music teachers
Caitlin Lindemuth and Marylee Vennemeyer, performed several holiday songs, ending with "The Twelve Days of Christmas.”  Twelve students, each representing one of the days and playing a different instrument, went into the audience and selected seniors to help play their instruments during the song.

Each student representative was responsible for learning a specific job.  Greeters, coat checkers, and escorts made sure guests were warmly welcomed and taken care of when they arrived.  Food and drink servers were responsible for guests during the luncheon, while helpers mingled and socialized.

As guests gathered their things to leave, they left with a souvenir holiday placemat that was created by a Western Row student.

"This is one of the very best events we do," said Eric Messer, Principal. “It is an honor for us to share a meal with these very special members of our community.”
