Safety Measures in Our Schools

Parents should be assured to know that the safety measures inGetting buzzed in place through Mason City Schools are extensive. Mason City Schools’ Assistant Superintendent of Operations works diligently to ensure that the system-wide emergency plan is current and that all staff members are prepared to respond to a wide variety of school emergencies.

Each of our schools has numerous safety measures in place to provide a safe environment for our students and staff. Some of the safety measures that can be found in our schools include:

•     An emergency operations team with selected members that have participated in training to ensure appropriate response on a variety of potential school emergencies.

•     Many exterior school doors are locked with key-card, buzzer/intercom, and video camera systems in place.

•     Emergency 2-way radios to receive updates on emergency situations, as well as assist in emergency communications.

•     Entrances monitored during school hours.

•     Visitors are asked to be prepared to identify themselves. We thank our parents and visitors for their understanding with this matter.

•     All principals and key administrators have cell phones in order to assist in emergency communications.

We have developed a comprehensive plan that covers a wide variety of emergencies that serves as a guide to help our staff and public safety partners to respond swiftly should a crisis occur.
